A good year for punk?
This year should be a good year for fans of punk revival. I think what this year also shows that that punk is far from dead; in fact, I’m not sure whether it has ever been more alive.
First off, The Offspring are leading the charge with their Greatest Hits album, including the new single that is previously un-released, Can’t Repeat. They also have a greatest hits DVD in the works which will have audio commentary from Dexter and Noodles.
Billy Talent should be finally releasing their new album this year. According to Benjamin they are in no hurry to bring out a second album just because the studio tells them to, but believe me guys, all your fans want to here more music from you too!
Alien Ant Farm is back in the studio, or indeed has been back in the studio to record their new album. And Nickelback are still tucked away in the studio working on their new album with Three Doors Down drummer Daniel Adair.
That said, it’s not like 2004 wasn’t a good year for punk either. Offspring released their album, Splinter. Which I mean sure it sucked compared to their earlier work but it still had some good stuff on it. Green Day also came out with American Idiot so you can’t really ask for more genre heavyweights.
So although the split of Blink 182 may have dented some confidence the fact is that punk revival is still very much alive. Green Day are still producing music, The Offspring are still producing music, Bad Religion are still producing music and bands like Billy Talent are still appearing on the scene.
